Member of the Week: Jason Valento
Written By: Jackie Riess
Motocross racer Jason Valento got his start with a KDX80. The catch? He purchased it without his parents’ permission. Luckily, they weren’t too upset, as he continued to ride and joined D23 ARMCA in 1998. He began racing motocross, and now competes in the 35+ B and 40+ B classes. Though he has enjoyed racing over the years and has had success on the track, his greatest accomplishment is passing on his love for the sport to his son, Seth. The high quality racing and events in D23 ARMCA are what keep him coming back, and he plans to as long as his body allows. In the future, Jason strives to continue having fun on the track, cheer on young D23 ARMCA racers, and even try other disciplines of motorcycle racing.
In his early racing days, Jason was inspired by Jeff Stanton, and our local motocross hero, Donny Schmit. However, now, he’s inspired by the younger racers that share high-fives before and after their time on the track. Motorcycling has become a part of Jason’s identity, and the friendships and memories he’s made through the sport outweigh the strain on his pocketbook.
Jason starts his race day with a hearty breakfast and quiet time, but he also enjoys a few laughs on the line before the gate drops. In addition to riding and racing, Jason enjoys playing guitar, mountain biking, and snowboarding in the wintertime. He also spends time fending off the paparazzi for his dog, Toby, who he claims is “the famous one” of the pair. Once encouraged to “enjoy the moment,” Jason encourages other D23 ARMCA members to be grateful for the community we have here in D23 ARMCA. He explains, “we have a district with wonderful volunteers who work hard to give us something we should be proud of. We have promoters who are amazing. Say thank you. Be grateful. Help out if you can. Don't take it for granted.”
