Member of the Week: Mikey Quinn
Written By: Jackie Riess
Mikey Quinn was born into Minnesota motorcycling because of his father, Mike Quinn’s, involvement in the sport. Mikey began riding as a toddler on a hand-me-down Suzuki JR50 that was shared by many kids. And finally, by the time he was 9, he had his own bike; a KX80 that he was surprised with after football practice! Mikey took to the trails and competed in Hare Scrambles in addition to his recreational riding. He grew up helping his father with the Golden Eagles M/C by preparing trails for the Theilman and Neillsville trail rides, and continues to give back to the sport to this day.
Mikey has been a long standing volunteer of the D23 ARMCA Board and Spring Creek MX Park. In the late ’90’s, Mikey helped implement SCMX’s first computers using the AMA Scoring software and tracked their points using Excel. He soon learned about Trackside software, and began using this new software at SCMX. Mikey passed on his knowledge of this software to other motocross tracks, and eventually implemented its use at the District level in 2007. D23 ARMCA uses Trackside scoring software to this day, all thanks to Mikey!
Now, Mikey enjoys Trail Rides, Hare Scrambles, and Motocross, and though he hasn’t ridden in a couple years due to his heavy involvement as a volunteer, he strives to get back to the trails in 2023. Mikey continues to volunteer in MN motorcycling because of the quality time he gets to spend with his family and closest friends. And though he learned many lessons through his chosen team sport of football, he also attributes many personal skills to the individual sport of motorcycling. In addition to his passion for these sports, Mikey enjoys reading, movies, gaming, murder mysteries, and traveling.
Once advised by the great John Martin to "focus on corner speed and the jumps will come,” Mikey advises other D23 ARMCA members to “forge friendships and always help each other out.”
