Member of the Week: Gage Krech
Written By: Jackie Riess
In 2009, Gage Krech took his XR50 to a field across the street from his house for his first ride on a motorcycle. He was hooked, and burned through tanks and tanks of gas in this field until the following year when he became a District 23 ARMCA member. This is when Gage competed in his first motocross race and has been ever since! In 2022, he will be competing in the 250 and Open B motocross classes, and has goals of returning to his competitive ways after a severe knee injury he incurred in 2021. In addition to regaining his speed, strength, and overall confidence, he strives to return to the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross National in the B classes.
Gage’s greatest racing accomplishment came in 2019 when he won the North Central Regional in the 250 C class. He then went on to compete at Loretta’s where he finished 14th overall. He describes this experience as “a weight taken off his shoulders, knowing that he finally made it.” He believes this experience helped him to learn more about the race, and will help him prepare for future trips to The Ranch.
Gage has spent most weekends of his life at a motocross track with his family, which he believes has brought them closer together even as he’s grown older. Their motivation and support inspire him to do his best, and help him through the low periods that come with racing. Gage continues to race in District 23 ARMCA because the places and the people feel like home to him. Once advised to go easy on himself, he encourages other D23 ARMCA members to “make this time count. Get out there, have some fun, and enjoy the ride.”
