Tom and I were at the capitol this morning regarding the liability law. The bill is Senate File (SF) 1183. The Senate passed the bill off of the floor last year. The House passed a similar bill that was added to the judicial omnibus bill. This year, the House has agreed to hear SF1183 as a standalone bill. This means that it will most likely not get tied up in the politics between the legislature and the Governor. It passed out of the Judiciary Committee this morning and is heading to the floor for a vote. The bill is authored by Rep Dill and co-authored by Rep Hackbarth.

Please send a message to your club members and contacts asking them to call their House members and urge them to approve SF1183 on the house floor. The vote could be as early as next Tuesday (it isn’t scheduled yet), so please send it out as soon as possible.

Once this passes off of the House floor, it will go to the Governor for signature. It will take effect immediately after it is signed by the Governor into law.
